Breeding Program

Reproduction, production, product and profit; simply put is what we expect from the bulls that are bred at Fairview.

Reproduction - We want mobile high libido bulls that can handle large mating loads and get calves on the ground.

Production - We then want production with calves that have adequate growth for age.

Product - They must be able to meet market specifications whether it be target weights or carcass grid specifications.

Profit - With cattle that are efficient, have a low cost of production we are set in a position to maximise profit.

Our females must be able to perform under conditions, just like those found in most commercial operations. Selection is placed on females that reach puberty early, are efficient and live long productive lives. Our typical joining spans 44 days beginning with the use of trait leading sires in a synchronised artificial insemination programme. This is then followed by another 2 cycles of heat detection AI, all resulting in a uniform and consistent calf crop. Our calves are born in the late winter frost; they must hit the ground, stay healthy and grow. Females that have a difficult calving, have poor disposition or fail to bring a calf home at weaning are removed from the breeding herd.

Quality females are paramount for the production of quality bulls and with this intense selection criteria applied to our females we are producing balanced, functional and profitable cattle that perform in all environments. We utilize a one size fits all approach to our breeding management, allowing no exceptions, and it is our belief that this is the optimal way to produce females that will ultimately make a positive contribution to the Australian beef industry.
